DESCRIPTION:If you want to try your hand at the art of punch needle rug hooking\, this is the class for you. Starting with a small kit you will make a small punch needle hooked project. Skills covered will include: \n\nPositioning base fabric on the frame\nDrawing (tracing) a simple design\nSuitable yarns\nThreading a punch needle and types of punch needles\nThe basics of punching\nFinishing\n\nYour piece will not be finished during class but all stages of rug hooking will be covered and simple directions for completing your piece will be provided. Kits will be distributed the day of class and include all of the materials you will need to complete your piece except a needle and thread for hemming and scissors. You will be using the instructor’s equipment (gripper strip frame and cozy and Oxford punch needle.) Equipment is available for purchase after the class. Please bring a pair of small scissors\, like embroidery scissors\, with a pointed tip to class. \n$65 per seat\, tickets available on the Red Barn website.

SUMMARY:Contour Drawing to Wire Sculpture
DESCRIPTION:This is an introduction to the power of line through both drawing and sculpture. \nThis workshop introduces participants to the expressive power of line through both drawing and sculpture. We will begin by discussing contour-focused works by Egon Schiele and Ellsworth Kelly to see how line suggests movement\, emotion\, and form. Participants will then complete guided contour drawing exercises to build confidence. Finally\, we will explore the wire sculptures of Alexander Calder and use the drawings as templates to create original three-dimensional wire sculptures. \nSuzanne earned her MFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and previously served as a professor of studio art at Rider University. She maintains an active studio practice and has a particular passion for painting en plein air. Recently\, she relocated from Lancaster\, Pennsylvania\, to Park Rapids. Suzanne is eager to engage with the local arts community and contribute to the region’s vibrant cultural landscape. \n$25 per seat\, tickets available on the Armory website.
