SUMMARY:Screen Printing 101 with Sam Workman-Wetmore
DESCRIPTION:Screen Printing 101- Hand Painted Stencil Prints \nScreen Printing\, or Serigraphy\, is a stencil printing process that utilizes a fine mesh stretched over a screen and ink is pushed through the openings of the screen. This is also possible to do with photographs if the image is bitmapped and split by color in photoshop. Most people see a screen printed piece of art every day of their life as consumers. The most common screen printed item are graphic T-shirts. Due to registration issues\, we will NOT be making t-shirts\, however\, this class will teach the basics of screen printing. Samantha Workman will be your instructor for the day(s). Go easy on her\, this will only be her 2nd time teaching a printmaking class. \n⭐Registration is FREE thanks to the Arts Access Grant. Region 2 Arts Council Arts Access Grants are made possible by the voters of Minnesota thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. \nMaximum number of students is 10 due to number of screens \nIn order to attend this class\, you will have to register with Julie Kjennas at the Armory Arts and Events Center. This event\, primarily observed in Mexico and parts of Central America\, blends Indigenous traditions with elements of Catholicism. Participating in this celebration involves several meaningful activities. \n* We will have an Ofrenda (Altar): Come and place photographs of those you wish to honor. The ofrenda will have candles and marigolds\, which symbolize the sun and guide spirits back to the realm of the living. \n* Activities: Engage in cultural practices such as face painting\, where artist Guillermo will be painting faces to resemble skulls.\nWe will have coloring activities and sidewalk chalk for the kids. \n* Participate by attending this event\, which includes music\, dance\, and storytelling\, celebrating the lives of loved ones\, and community connections. \nThis is not somber but celebratory. \nBy embracing these activities\, you can honor the essence of the Day of the Dead while enriching a greater appreciation for cultural diversity and remembrance.
