Intro to Sourdough with Mama & Mabel’s

This is a beginner-friendly, hands-on sourdough starter class designed to build confidence and remove the intimidation around sourdough. Participants will feed an established starter during class and leave with an active, established starter of their own plus a new wooden spoon!
The class covers the basics of sourdough fermentation and terminology, how to start a starter from scratch (explained, not practiced), proper feeding and storage, and common troubleshooting. We also explain why weighing ingredients leads to more consistent and reliable results.
Participants will learn what sourdough discard is, how it can be used, and observe gluten-development methods that contribute to successful loaves at home. Also, proper disposal of sourdough and discard.
The focus is on simplicity, success, and understanding—ensuring participants leave feeling confident caring for their starter and continuing sourdough baking at home.
